Chiropractic care is not only safe for pre-natal care, but in many ways is essential for an easier pregnancy, a decreased labor time, and a smoother recovery after the birth. One important reason for chiropractic care throughout pregnancy is to help establish balance in the mother’s pelvis. Any narrowing of the pelvis can lead to difficult labor. Also, since the woman’s pelvis supports her growing uterus with specific ligaments, any imbalance of the pelvic bones can create problems for the development of the baby. Pelvic imbalances may also hamper the baby’s movement within the womb and hinder the baby’s getting into the proper position for birth.
Webster Technique
Methodology developed by Dr. Larry Webster, DC Founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, establishes the pelvic balance and reduces stress to the uterus and supporting ligaments. The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjusting technique that reduces interference to the nerve system and facilitates biomechanical balance in pelvic structures, muscles, and ligaments. The Webster Technique has been shown to reduce the effects of intrauterine constraint, allowing the baby to get into the best position possible for birth.
The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics reported in the July/August 2002 issue, an 82 percent success rate of babies turning vertex.
Children and Chiropractic
A child’s spine can be stressed or injured from as early as birth. Chiropractic physicians are able to detect subtle traumas to the spine, such as from the birthing process, tumbles and falls when learning to walk, or bad posture, just to name a few.
It is important for a healthy growing child that their spine is developing correctly. Early spinal exams and chiropractic care may help prevent many health problems later in life. Chiropractic adjustments are different for children than for adults. They are very gentle, with no more pressure than you would use to test the ripeness of a tomato, and children usually respond quickly to treatment.
Your child’s immune system is part of their Central Nervous System, and the most important part of the Central Nervous System is the spine. The first step to achieving and maintaining wellness is a properly functioning immune system.
Persistent earaches and ear infections, colic, allergies, asthma, headaches, bedwetting, and growing pains are just some of the common childhood disorders that can be helped by chiropractic. For example, gentle chiropractic adjustments can help to drain the middle ear and clear the blockages in the Eustachian tube. Pediatricians estimate 95% of ear infections are caused by poor drainage rather than an actual infection.
Making sure your child maintains good nutrition, good posture, sleeping habits and spinal health is key to Wellness for your Child.
